London Dressing
Okay, I promised, here you go.
During my recent trip to London, while it was snowing here in Boston, Londoners were shedding their macs to enjoy the warm, sunny weather. Perhaps people were caught sartorially ill-prepared by this, because I have to say that, on the whole, I found the men in London to be far more stylish than the women. Frump much? And I thought Bostonians were bad. Nevertheless, a few noteworthy style trends emerged. I need to perfect my stealth street snap technique; unfortunately, I left with no photographic evidence. You’ll have to trust me. Continue Reading

CommentLove in a Bottle
After reading a recent NPR story about how even plastic without BPA is leaching estrogenic chemicals into whatever it comes in contact with, I was ready to give up plastic water bottles for good. I usually fill a bottle with tap water each night to keep beside my bed for late-night thirst quenching. Time to find a glass bottle – pronto! Well, ask and ye shall receive; yesterday I found a Love Bottle at my favorite local spa. It was exactly what I was looking for. And more, it turns out. Continue Reading
Think Pink
In India pink may be the new navy, but in our culture, when we think of pink we tend to think of all that is girly. Ballet slippers, cupcake frosting, bubble gum, and every automobile and piece of real estate that Barbie ever owned. It holds its place in fashion, too. Elsa Schiaparelli introduced “Shocking Pink” and Mamie Eisenhower loved and wore pink so much that it became known as “Mamie Pink.” A vibrant pink called Honeysuckle was named Pantone’s color of the year for 2011. Perhaps more significantly though, Pink is the color of universal love. Continue Reading
Kaboom!
I can’t remember the last time, if ever, I received a direct mail piece that was so interesting and creative that I wanted to put it on my inspiration board (this is a bulletin board where I save pictures, articles, cards and other things that strike me in some way that I want to save to spur creative thinking). On occasion a clever print ad has made it up there, but no promotional pieces that someone sent me trying to get me to do something. Until now. Continue Reading
Wild for Honeysuckle
Courageous. Confident. Vital. A brave new color, for a brave new world. Let the bold spirit of Honeysuckle infuse you, lift you and carry you through the year. It’s a color for every day – with nothing “everyday” about it.
Okay, “brave new world” may be a tad hyperbolic, but everyone from the Wall Street Journal to the UK’s Independent and every blogger in between has gone giddy over Pantone’s announcement last month that the color of the year for 2011 is PANTONE 18-2120 Honeysuckle. Continue Reading
The Demise of Melisma is Music to My Ears
I’m just going to put it right out there – I have always hated Mariah Carey. As one who has taken voice lessons since a tender age and came close to studying opera, I take offense to anyone calling the vocal calisthenics in which she indulged as actual singing. Funny thing is, now that she is getting, ahem, older, she can’t do it anymore anyway. I digress.
An article in today’s New York Times explores the recent musical trend which is, essentially, a return to regular (if somewhat – according to them – anemic) singing, thankfully lacking in melisma (which I didn’t even realize was a word; I only knew I hated it’s exercise). “The female pop stars who have dominated the charts this year rarely opt for that approach. Their ascent makes it clear that melisma has retreated, while pop, which has just wrapped up one of its best years in at least a decade, has benefited from a return to less frilly, less bombastic vocal showcases.” Continue Reading

My name is Angela Eloise and I am a freelance writer. I recently moved to Seattle because I wanted a better home base to support my creative goals. And my shaman told me to. Cloud of Chaos was born from my desire to dance with the absurdity of life, to create a space where I could write and share all of the gorgeous, fun, snarky deliciousness I find spinning around me every day. What does a spinning cloud of chaos have to do with writing? Everything, as it turns out.
